SUP in Wales you don’t have to fly to find
If you are looking for an unforgettable SUP holiday escape the Gower has miles of magical coastline. From flat water bays to adrenalin barrelling reefs (swell permitting) there’s something for all levels of paddlers. With some of the finest stretches of sand in the UK, the Gower’s Rhossili beach was voted the best in Britain and ninth in the world by Trip Advisor.
Where to stay and paddle
There are several campsites and three hostels in the Gower for a budget break offering self-catering or full board. Two are located around Port Eynon and one at Rhossili and are suitable for groups and those on activity holidays. For the advanced rider, there’s an amazing paddle from Port Eynon down past miles of the picturesque limestone crags to Three Cliffs Bay.
As mentioned this is a trip for the pros due to exposure to the elements and powerful tidal conditions. Here the fresh turquoise waters and jaunty rocky peaks are like a snapshot from Thailand. If you’re travelling without your kit, we have SUP boards to hire for most conditions and If you’re new to Stand Up Paddling and want the best advice and instruction we offer 1 or 2 hour lessons.
Where to paddle on the Gower
We recommend over 20 locations in our SUP spots guide to get the most out of your holiday. There are various sheltered bays for beginners and those keen to try SUP surfing there are some gentle breaks and enough space to find a quiet spot. Some of the more advanced waves can be heavy and a real adventure to reach, taking you through sand dunes, over cliffs and long-distance paddles to secluded bays. With or without the pleasant weather, Wales has the magic and offers the kind of paddle break that you don’t have to fly to find.
