So another year passes and Starboard have again tweaked there general use Paddle race board the Allstar
This year rather than paying attention to the tail or bottom contour they have spent time on the nose shape which is noticeably different in the way the board flows from bow entry to the dynamic contours which is apparent on the underside.
Emily King UK SUP clubs overall 12’6 Female SUP race series winner although Pregnant gives us the lowdown on her inital thoughts on the new Allstar boards.
The Wider models 28″ are super stable and allow lots of glide between bumps for downwind Paddling.
Matt The 12’6 x 24 felt tippy but good upwind, downwind at my weight (85kg) 10kg over the suggested max rider weight of 75kg for this model- I found glides downwind harder to connect, Therefore I would personally choose 25″ or 26″wide models in 12’6.

The Allstar is a board I love and enjoy racing so to try the 2016 model was going
to be fun. I wasn’t disappointed. The board seems super stable in chop cutting through the water like a knife with plenty of primary and secondary rock
stabilizing you when your side on to chop and wind. The water flow under the
concave of the board makes it feel very fast in accelerating as in the sister board the
Sprint. The standing area now has lowered rails making it much easier to use
whilst the tail has been redesigned to make it more stable for those all-important
tail pivot turns. A super fast and buoyant board, which is going to be raising the bar in racing!
