PADDLEBOARDS for big and small kids

A growing market!
Stand up paddle boarding does not have to be ‘just for adults’. Children can have just as much fun stand up paddle boarding and paddle surfing as the grown ups albeit on the right SUP board.
Most of the high end brands have smaller boards that are easier to carry and manage in the surf making them suitable for kids and smaller people. However, looking for the right board within these brands can be expensive.
Here is a list of STAND UP PADDLE BOARDS which we feel could be suitable for kids and Women, helping you make the right decision for a SUP board for your younger/ smaller ones this summer!

(All of these boards are not specific to Kids and can be ridden by anyone – big kids included i.e. over 30!)

Naish
A high end brand which produces a great range of boards in a couple of constructions with some unique innovative features.
The SUP Boards from Naish which would be suitable for kids would be as follows.

Designed for the next generation of watermen, the Keiki series offers kids killer surf and flatwater shapes of their own in a safe, durable construction. The Keiki series will cover the needs of any grom, whether they’re paddling on the river or riding waves in the surf.

This short, wide and easy to maneuver board sets the standard for juniors looking to take their stand up surfing to the next level. The Keiki 6’6″ is built in soft top construction, with an EVA nose and special rail protection for safety, but features a hard bottom for more advanced riding. It can be set up as either a thruster or a quad, and kids up to 130 lbs will find it a great match for their size in surf conditions.(sold without bag)

Safety is a priority when learning to paddle, so the Keiki 9’0″ is built in soft top construction with a soft bottom and flexible fins to avoid bumps and bruises. The board features an EVA nose and special rail protection that not only safeguards riders against injuries, but shields the board from impact damage. Drops 8’11 review from Michael

A simple review from Michael of scotland of  a 8’11 vulcan and SUPGower customer

Hi Matt

Its been a while since we spoke but agreed to give you feedback on my 8’11 Vulcan board. Loving it; it is the closest to a shortboard experience I have had and, in my view, is more lively and than any of the C4s I tried in the Canaries. It pivots on a dime and I have not yet experienced a problem with the standard quad fins. If I spin out its because I’m having too much fun and pushing it. Don’t truly get much over 8ft on a good day in my neck of the woods often so the Vulcan is a perfect fit. Chop is a challenge but still fun – normally I know within 5 mins if its time to get the Greedy off the roof.

The biggest mistake I made early on was to keep the Vulcan 8’11 for glassy and/or big days. The front rocker just needs a tap with the foot and its off….even in tiddler waves.

Drops 8'11

Suspect you know all this but the Vulcan is now attracting interest from a few lads who won’t SUP till they are OAP’s – I’ll let them know where you are.

Its summer bust out some SUP Watusi style -

watsui surfing style

OK…. a lil crazy I know … but next time you’re out in some summer surf -try busting out some watusi style on your stand up paddle board.

Have some Aloha style… Mahalo matt :)

DROPS Stand up paddleboard Reviews

Drops 8’11 ‘Vulcan’ SUP review
Length : 8’11 = 272 cm
Width : 29″ 1/3
Thickness : 4″ 5/7
Volume : 142 litres

Drops 8′11 vulcan sup

In brief

The Vulcan will have your nerves twitching, a powerful fast board with little limitations and suprisingly easy to paddle.
At first the board feels sluggish compared to a Longer style SUP board, This lack of glide is the only drawback of the board which needs solid controlled paddle strokes to keep the row effect at a mimimum.
Plenty of volume for 85 kilos, the board can be seriously pushed into some inspiring curves and also ridden off the nose for those who appreciate some Longboard style. As with the ‘Furious’ Fins can drastically change the boards performance- comes with quad fin US Tuttle box configeration

Length : 8’10 = 270 cm
Width : 29″
Thickness : 4″ 5/7
Volume : 138 litres

Drops 8′10 sup

In brief

This is a ‘furious’ Shortboard style SUP board
This board commands some serious practice to enable the user to utilize its amazing performance in the waves. Whilst a 85 kilo paddler may find easy to flat water paddle, in any chop this board is very hard to bring back from a rail dive. In waves the board is ridden hard off the wide tail and therfore paddle length is important because of the lower riding style the board adopts the rider to approach.
Great performance in 2-6ft surf – Fins can drastically change this boards performance- comes with quad fin US Tuttle box configeration.

Length : 10’11 = 330 cm
Width : 28″ 3/4
Thickness : 4″ 2/3
Volume : 185 litres

Drops 10′11 spirit sup

In brief-
A brilliant competition SUP board which will amaze surfers into how  manoeuvrable a Stand up board can be but still easy for a beginner to gain their balancing techniques. This board is fast and aggressive to turn , a great longboard style board which can be pushed to its limits with tight cutbacks and noseriding style. Very stable even at 28 ” wide- This board is a great allrounder and will easily please the Beginner wanting to get into SUP to a Surfer worried about getting a SUP board they will outgrow.
The ‘Spirit’ is a SUP board you will remember for years to come !
