Carver surf skates

I’d never do that !

Although you might be hesitant to even think of skateboarding again, You’ll be naive to think it’s just a pastime for groms or spotty kids who get in your way and wax curbsides up on saturday afternoons in the supermarket carpark.

However

If you are consumed by STAND UP PADDLING and everything which is associated with it (we are) you may want to re-consider how as a landlocked Paddle surfer or aspiring paddler : skateboarding is the closest thing to surfing you’ll find other than spending £1000 on a snowboard holiday.
When the surf is small or flat and you want to re kindle the feeling and motion of your last big move you surprisingly achieved on your last session…maybe just maybe you should try a Carver skateboard

The Carver skateboard team based in venice California we’re just like you and me so here is a short extract from their website.

It all started one quiet summer in Venice, California. Greg Falk and Neil Carver had been surfing all winter, and were pumped to surf the warm waters of the Breakwater in the long days of summertime, but it was flat as a puddle. Not even a longboard ripple to justify getting wet. So, like many generations before them, they took to the streets with skateboards in search of hills to surf. The historic neighborhoods of Venice and Santa Monica are a veritable skate park of steep alleys and banks, and as they dropped in on these asphalt waves they were struck with how unlike surfing it was. Sure, they sort of got a surf-like experience, as much as standing on a board and banking turns can provide, but they really missed the snap that a surfboard has, that crisp pivot you get at the tail that lets you really pump a wave for speed. Their skateboards felt stiff by comparison. But as they loosened the trucks, all they got was speed wobble, and the steepest hills became virtually un-skateable. Even with loose trucks, the dynamic of the turn was still all rail-to-rail, and picking up the nose in a tic-tac at high speed down a steep incline wasn’t ideal.

It’s been ten years since that flat summer, and Carver is more solid now than ever. They’ve got the manufacturing down, the product line has grown with a full range of completes, apparel and accessories, and there’s a solid base of distribution that is expanding nicely. And as skating evolves to include the many styles re-emerging on the scene, Carver continues to develop new equipment for the all-around skater, helping to drive progression forward and supply the components for the complete quiver.

“I see people on our boards all the time now, and I love seeing how each skater brings their own unique mark to the style,” Neil said.

One thing, though, seems to stand out. Whoever is riding, they’re not just skating the street, they’re surfing the urban wave.

Carver skateboards are available from us here at THE SUP HUT , We have 2 demo models and Abi my wife who is competing in the ISA Peru world paddle board championships has been using the boards to great effect to train on after work in the dark evenings.

Anyway watch the below movie …its really captures the freedom of what the Carver skateboard offers, which is what we all love about surfing. The dude may look like a hippy, but the sun is shining and the sky is blue!
