My Coreban Fusion review for what its worth!! by Gary Thatcher
I picked up the 9ft Coreban Fusion – Pure range from Andy at wavehunters about 5/6 weeks ago at Polzeath where he is based, a very easy going bloke to deal with I have to say! My reasoning for the Fusion is that I own a 7ft 8” Naish Hokua which is the Dogs in 3 to 8ft clean waves but hard work in Chop so was looking for something fun in the more normal choppy conditions we get at Gwithian and Mounts Bay where I am lucky enough to live.
Having watched Ivan van Vuuren of ‘Coreban’ videos and how wickedly easy he makes it look I decided the 9ft Fusion was the one for me.
I am a 47 year old SUP addict weigh about 11st wet who started last November I do have a history of windsurfing but have no connection with Coreban so this really is just my opinion but if you want to have fun in typical English surf give the Fusion a demo.
The board is so easy to paddle into waves and once on the move it really shifts, you can walk up and down the board easily (monster spray painted the nose works a treat).I can take late drops into waves better than I expected in fact about same as my Naish which surprised me and actually turns very well for a volume of 148ltrs.The volume of this board is the same as the Starboard Element I started on but it feels so much looser as the volume seems very well distributed throughout the board and coupled with a good nose rocker it pops over white water with ease.
We have been very lucky to have had a constant swell for the last few weeks but it has been choppy and all I can say is in the 2/6 ft wave range with wind chop and short wave periods this board has been a blast, so much so that I have only been on the Naish once in the time I have had the Fusion. This board seems to be real good all-rounder surf SUP.
