Messing with Crazy fins
Whilst out in Morocco recently, I took a set of fins off one of my kiteboards to use in my quad fin SUP board.
The fins are off the new NORTH KITEBOARDING ‘race limited’ board .A funny looking set of fins, angled twin blade-fins with symmetrical foils that produce high lift and very little drag.
Quad surfboard fin setups first came onto the scene in the early 80′s during the thruster 3 fin revolution and then died a death in popularity. In recent times Kelly slater and Bruce Irons have increased the awareness of the Quad fin whilst using them on tour.
There are countless combinations of different fin setups you can use in quad fin boards from fin size, cant, rake, angles, fin material, and more. You can basically find a fin setup that will work! -The ride on my 10’2 Greedy Quad SUP has always been fun but this recent change in fin setup has really opened my eyes to what this board is capable of.
so much speed and hold in big waves i really had to stick the paddle in the water bigtime to
slow down!
In smaller waves the fins performed very well too, lots of speed straight from takeoff i have since been playing around with different placements in the mini
tuttle box setup
see these pictures – tried this setup yesterday in 3ft surf and was very suprised -really loose off the top and lots of speed off the bottom it really goes to show how important fins are in different boards.
we have a good range of Gong SUP boards in stock at great prices compared to other brands

My recent trip to Morocco with my SUP board was a great success!
Initially I was hesitant, heading out to such a troden ‘surfing’ location with my STAND UP PADDLEBOARD but after speaking to a few locals and guys on the ground in Morocco I commited and bought my Ryan air flight.
I have been out to Tarhazoute many times before to surf the great waves which the area receives from low pressure systems
tracking the atlantic, famous spots such as ANCHOR POINT, KILLERS and BOILERS you may have heard of, the area is a regular footers dream.
Plenty of right hand points and reefs all within 20-30 minutes of one another.
The Ryan air flight was cheap and the SUP board not a problem on the plane although getting it on the pink elephant airport bus to the terminal was amusing.

I travelled with my trusty 10’2 GONG ‘greedy’ a few sets of new fins i wanted to try and one carbon paddle.
Tarhazoute is a great little place albeit a little dirty, it has been housing travelling surfers for many many years and is the gateway to all the waves on offer around the area.

I scored waves all the way up the coast, surfing Banana point most days with a few sessions at Panaorama’s, imasoune and Tamri.
I was travelling with regular surfers, I got no hassle in the water although im no wave hog and believe etiquette in the water to be very important
especially on a SUP board.
